RAC Board and General Meetings April 19, 2008

The next Rensselaer Acacia Corporation Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 19 at the Chapter House. This is a postponement from the originally scheduled start time of 11:00 AM due to the AIGC meeting earlier that morning.

Following the Board Meeting, the Rensselaer Acacia Corporation's annual General Meeting is scheduled for 2:00 PM that same day at the Chapter House. All Corporation Members in good standing are invited to attend. If you have not yet paid your 2008 dues, you may do so online now, or in-person prior to the meeting, in order to be able to vote on any issues raised during the general meeting (this includes election of Board Members).

Chapter Eternal: Richard Wolfson

Amy G. Wolfson, wife of Brother Richard Wolfson '66, wrote in to pass along the sad news that Brother Wolfson passed away in December after a prolonged battle with brain cancer. In addition to his wife, he leaves three children and two grandchildren.

The Alumni Directory team is pleased to announce that we've integrated our own mailing lists with the Alumni Directory. We currently have email lists for Official News, Life Updates, Jobs (seeking employees or employment), the Housing Committee, and the Corporation Board. Subscription to these lists is controlled through your Alumni Directory account, so if you haven't already logged in, please head over to the Directory and sign up. Please note that all valid email addresses in the directory are automatically subscribed to the Official News list and that the Corporation Board list is open only to Board members. All lists are set up to allow posts only from valid subscriber addresses.

In a message from International President David J. Allen, we are saddened to learn that "Bill lost his courageous campaign to survive and passed away yesterday, March 9th, of the injuries sustained in a fire in his apartment in Seoul, Korea, a week ago." May he rest in peace, and may God comfort his family and friends and brothers in their grief.

Bill Kapoun is a fraternity brother from the Indiana Chapter who recently suffered horrific burns in a apartment fire in South Korea, where he was teaching English to children. The school where he was working did not provide any medical insurance for him and the bills for his treatment are astronomical. If you can spare something to help defray his costs, it may literally mean the difference between life and death to this young man.

The annual Pledges, Brothers, and Alumni weekend and hockey game is fast approaching. RPI's Big Red Freakout is this Saturday, February 2 against Princeton. Keeping with tradition, we've secured the Field House ice for after the game. The schedule of events for the day as follows:

11:30-12:00 - Lunch
There will be cold cuts, bread, etc for sandwiches before the corp meeting.

12:00- Whenever - Corp Meeting

5:15 - 6:45 - Dinner
Dinner from Maselli's. This will be large tray items such as Ziti, Meatballs, Sausage and Peppers, etc, etc.

7:00 - 9:30 - Big Red Freakout/Hang Out at the house.
This is when the game will happen RPI vs. Princeton. The house was unable to secure a block of tickets for the game this year, but there may still be a few available.

9:45 - 11:15 - PBA at the RPI Field House.
Find skates and your smelly old hockey gear you haven't washed since college and get your sorry old man butt on the ice. No excuses!

11:30 - whenever - Back to the house.
Enjoy the company of fellow alumni, active brothers, and newly initiated brothers.

Alumni Directory Online

Thanks to much hard work by Chris Achille, #710, the first public version of our new Alumni Directory is up and running. You can login by clicking the Directory link at the top of the RAC website. Currently the database is only partially filled in; we have some basic info in there and limited functionality. As further iterations are put in place there will be more search options and increased capabilities, but for now we need, more than anything, help populating it with updated information.

Please visit the directory and create yourself an account. Once logged in you can update not only your own but also other brothers' info. We do have some roll numbers missing names, so please make sure to check the roll numbers you are familiar with and make sure you have filled in any missing spots. Updated contact info is also important, so if you see your own info or another brothers info is incomplete or out of date, please take the time to fill it in.

RAC Board Meeting December 1, 2007

The Rensselaer Acacia Corporation will hold a regular Board of Directors meeting at the Acacia house, 145 Sunset Terrace in Troy, on Saturday, December 1, 2007. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM. All members of the Rensselaer Acacia Corporation are welcome to attended.

Special Meeting Called for October 6

Four dues-paying members of the RAC (myself, Nick McDaniel, Jason Sensibaugh, and Josh Adams) have submitted a request in writing to me, the RAC Secretary, to call a special meeting of RAC members, pursuant to RAC By-Laws Art. 3, Sect. 2. The date is October 6, 2007, at 12 PM (time subject to change), at the fraternity house at 145 Sunset Terrace.  This message is being sent out more than 10 days prior to the meeting date ( Art. 3, Sect. 2). There are four general points of business on the agenda for this meeting; only this business will be considered.

The present active membership (in terms of numbers, individual brothers/pledges, and divisions) and its effects on the alumni corporation
Ideas for RAC support of the Active Chapter
Clarification and definition of boundaries between RAC and the Active Chapter
RAC plans to aid in rebuilding Active Chapter membership

You must be a dues-paid alumnus to have a vote at this meeting if any matters are voted on. Proxy voting is discouraged by Robert's Rules of Order, but is allowed by the RAC By-Laws ( Art. 3, Sect. 4). Quorum at this meeting is defined as one-third of dues-paid members or nine dues-paid members, whichever is less (Art. 3, Sect. 3).

The website BitterOldMen.com was started by two early-2000s graduates a couple years ago as a way for alumni of that era to keep in touch as we disbursed across the country following graduation. The site has seen very limited activity lately, and we've decided to try to get more Rensselaer Acacians using it. Summer Recruiting

A friendly reminder from Acacia National that summer is the perfect time to recruit recent high school graduates who are heading to college campuses this fall. Remember back to that first year of college, and the enjoyment that being an Acacian brought. With this in mind, please, take the time to think if you have a son or relative — or know of a friend's son or relative — that will be attending college this next fall. If you know of someone, we ask that you share with him the idea of joining Acacia Fraternity. If you know of anyone who might make a good Acacian, you are asked to head over to the Acacia National website and fill out the online Rush Prospect form.

Acacia National Launches MDP

Acacia International Fraternity is proud to announce the launching of their new Membership Development Program. Under the direction of Membership Development Coordinator Brother Patrick McGovern, the foundations of the program are:

Social Awareness
Physical Well-being
Intellectual Growth

This looks to be the beginnings of a valuable tool to foster growth for our undergraduate chapters. I encourage all Acacia alumni to visit the Acacia MDP website and see how they might get involved to "strengthen the ties of friendship, one with another."
